A BRONZE TRIPOD VESSEL, DING
LATE SHANG - EARLY WESTERN ZHOU DYNASTY (12TH-8TH
CENTURY BC)
The exterior of the vessel is crisply cast with a band of taotie masks separated
by low, thin fanges. The rim supports two upright loop handles, all rising from
three tall cylindrical feet. The bronze has a mottled dark grey and green patina.

A bronze ding of comparable size with an undecorated body and similar
taotie scroll decoration the Royal Ontario Museum, Toronto, is illustrated
