Hanging scroll, ink and color on paper; at the
upper right inscribed by the artist with a title,
dated renshu shi yue (1922, tenth month) and
signed Tanshu with one artist’s seal reading
Songxian, and at the lower right inscribed by
the artist, dated renwu shi yue (1942, tenth
month) and signed Congxin Tanshu Fen with
one artist’s seal reading Deng Fen and one
collector’s seal.

Note
The second, longer inscription by the artist
is dated 1942 and states that a friend of the
artist (name removed) acquired this painting
at an antique store in Guangzhou and others
had doubted its authenticity; however,
the artist recognized it as his work from
twenty years before when he painted in the
Zhezhong style (折衷派, advocated by the
Lingnan School masters Gao Gianfu and Gao
Qifeng), which was a little-known fact.
