Provenance
Purchased from A. Aronson, Amsterdam in 1961.
The distinctive cross-hatched style of painting on the present lot was
short lived but can be seen on many covered beakers from the cargo
of the Vung Tau wreck (c. 1690), also see a covered beaker, circa
1700, in the Rijksmuseum collection C.J.A. Jorg, Chinese Ceramics...,
Philip Wilson 1997. However the pattern on large size potiches
appears to be extremely rare. A green-glazed lion finial, rather than the
usual gilt biscuit, or underglaze blue decorated types, seems to also
be an unusual embellishment.
