           MING DYNASTY

           carved in the form of a recumbent mythical beast, its ß attened
           body crouched on all fours, the face well deÞ ned by bulbous
           eyes, ß ared nostrils and furrowed eyebrows, with a long wavy
           mane, its thick feathery beard spreading across its chest, and
           the bifurcated tail tucked under itself, the stone of a mottled
           whitish-grey tone with black russet and inclusions
           12.5 cm., 4⅞ in.
