    A TWO-TIERED CARVED CINNABAR LACQUER
    BOX, COVER AND STAND

    QIANLONG PERIOD (1736-1795)

    The square cover with four ruyi-shaped corners is deeply and
    finely carved on the top with a large Wan emblem inset with a
    circular panel of Shoulao, reserved against a bat-strewn wave-
    diaper ground. The sides of each section are finely carved in the
    centre with square panels of bats amongst clouds, and each of the
    four corners is decorated with an auspicious motif, all supported
    on a separate red lacquer stand of conforming shape carved with
    meandering flowers.
