CENTURY
the flattened baluster body set with a pair of
kui dragon handles on the shoulder, rising from
a bed of swirling waves forming the base, the
exterior deftly worked with the Hehe Erxian, one
boy depicted crouching on cragged rocks holding
a box opening to a stream of vapours and a
leafy lotus bloom, the other hunching on further
rockwork near the shoulder of the vase above a
standing crane, the vase surmounted by a domed
cover carved with lappets and a bud-form finial,
wood stand
overall 18 cm, 7⅛ in.
PROVENANCE
Collection of T.Y. Chao (1912-1999), and thence
by descent in the family.
