           TWO RED-GROUND EMBROIDERED ‘HUNDRED BOYS’
           PANELS
           Qing Dynasty
           The two panels exquisitely embroidered with two groups of boys
           at play in a fenced garden planted decorated with rocks, trees and
           flowers on a red ground, one panel depicting a group of boys dancing
           and playing drum and gong, and another group of boys playing with
           crickets fighting; the panel depicting two groups playing kongzhu
           (diabolo) and cuju (similar to football), framed and glazed.

           These two panels may belong to a larger group of ‘hundred boys’
           embroidered display panels. Compare with a large panel embroidered
           with one hundred boys at play, Qing Dynasty, in the Palace Museum,
           Beijing, which is illustrated in the Corpus of Chinese Fabric, Embroidery
           and Finery, Tianjin, vol.2, 2004, no.221.

           方料,紅地,彩繡山石、花草果木於四邊,畫心各繡八子,每幅童子分為
           兩組,一幅四子玩鑼鼓雜技,四子斗蟋蟀;一幅四子扯空竹,四子玩蹴
           鞠,各童子衣衫繡以不同顏色及紋樣,色彩繽紛,形象生動。

           此兩幅或屬於一組百子圖刺繡,可參考北京故宮藏兩幅紅緞刺繡百子漁
           樵耕讀紋墊料,見《中國織繡服飾全集》,天津,2004年,卷2,編號221。
