HINGED COVER
18th century
Carved as two large fruits suspended from
twisting, leafy branches, with two insects
to the front, metal clasps and hinges; and a
bamboo carving of Shoulao, the smiling figure
holding a gnarled ruyi sceptre and staff, the
robes falling in elaborate pleats, 18th/19th
century. The box 11cm (4.3/8in) long; the
figure 20.2cm (8in) high. (2).
