           COVER AND A STAINED IVORY SEAL
           Early Qing Dynasty
           The box of six-lobed form, finely carved in
           shallow relief to the cover with a kylin roundel
           encircled by the Ba Bao, the sides engraved
           with scholars in mountainscapes and the
           stanzas of a poem; the square seal with a seal
           script face and Buddhist Lion finial.
           The box: 8cm (3 1/8in) diam. (3).

           The calligraphic inscription on the present
           lot is the poem by famous Tang poet Wang
           Zhihuan, ‘Climbing Stork Tower’, which
           is often regarded as a metaphor for an
           ambitious official rising up the ranks of state
           bureaucracy.

           白日依山盡
           黃河入海流
           欲窮千里目
           更上一層樓

           Bai ri yi shan jin
           Huang he ru hai liu
           yu qiong qianli mu
           geng shang yi ceng lou

           The white sun sets behind the mountains,
           and the Yellow River flows into the sea,
           To see a thousand mile view,
           go up another floor.

           A GROUP OF THREE IVORY PLAQUES
           18th/19th century
           Comprising: a reticulated rectangular plaque,
           carved with a seated kylin, on a geometric
           floral pattern ground; a rectangular three-
           sectioned plaque, carved in part openwork
           and relief to the central section with two
           ladies and a boy in a pavilion garden; and a
           rectangular plaque, incised and filled in black
           pigment with an official and female attendants   204
           in a pavilion garden, the reverse with a
           calligraphic roundel and precious objects, all
           with wood stands.

           The smooth cylindrical seal surmounted by
           a seated mythical beast, with bulging eyes
           and leonine features above a muscular body,
           the mane and tail finely detailed, the seal face
           reading lang lan xiang ge. 6cm (2 3/8in) high
