AN EXTREMELY RARE ALOESWOOD FIGURE OF
QILIN AND EBONY STAND
QIANLONG PERIOD (1736-1795)
The qilin is carved naturalistically simulating a root wood
sculpture, with its head turned, eyes bulging beneath thick brows
and horns between the pricked ears, and mouth with open jaws
revealing its fangs and tongues. Its ferocious feature is characterised
with contorted matrix of the roots depicting curly mane and
detailed fur, the bushy tail upswept. The ebony stand in the form
of a rock is inscribed with a bing character in gilt.
