PROPERTY FROM THE ESTATE OF JOANNA LAU SULLIVAN A TOURMALINE ‘LINGZHI’ SNUFF BOTTLE
Originally a toggle, carved in high relief with lingzhi fungus to its side
9135 walls (mouth rim chipped).
A GRAY AND WHITE JADE ‘DOUBLE-GOURD’ SNUFF BOTTLE 1 5/8in (4.2cm) high
1860-1930
The bottle with a waisted neck, flat lip, slightly recessed foot, the US$1,500 - 2,500
sides with undercut and raised leafy gourds issuing from scrolling
tendrils; the stone of a grayish-white tone, cast with dark gray and 9141
very pale russet inclusions (lacking spoon). TWO CARVED CHALCEDONY SNUFF BOTTLES

Including a compressed globular bottle flanked with a pair of faux lion
US$1,000 - 1,500 mask-and-ring handles, and a melon-form bottle carved in relief with
leafy branches issuing additional melons and a squirrel to the exterior

A GREEN OVERLAY CARAMEL GLASS SNUFF BOTTLE 2 1/2 and 2 5/8in (6.4 and 6.7cm) high

The bottle of ovoid profile, applied with deep green overlay, carved US$1,000 - 1,500
with a graceful pine tree, bamboo, and auspicious lingzhi plants rising
from precarious rocks, with bats hovering around a jaggy landscape 9142
(small chips along the edges of some overlay work). AN INSIDE-PAINTED GLASS SNUFF BOTTLE
2 7/8in (7.3cm) high Painted with a continuous scene depicting a prosaic scene of
travelers and peddlers walking nearby a guest house situated a
US$1,200 - 1,500 mountainous landscape, one side bearing an apocryphal signature
reading Zhou Leyuan, with a small seal painted in red (a flaking spot
9137 on neck, lacking spoon).
TWO CARVED CHALCEDONY SNUFF BOTTLES 2 1/4in (5.7cm) high
1850-1920
Each utilizing the color variations in the stone, one carved with US$800 - 1,200
butterflies and leafy vines between two faux lion mask-and-ring
handles (chips to rim), the other featuring roosters and lingzhi fungus. 9143

One molded with nine playful fu lions and ribboned ‘brocade’ balls
against dense cloud scrolls, the other molded as the Daoist immortal
Li Tieguai with his double gourd and crutch (surface wear and soiling,
small chips).

The first in natural pebble form, carved in high relief to its sides
with a dragon and a phoenix (small chips), the other modeled as a
melon, decorated with a cat and butterfly and additional leafy melons
(lacking spoon, minute nicks).
