PROVENANCE:
Acquired directly from the artist, and thence by descent.
The recipient of this work is the prominent diplomat Qian Tai (Tsien Tai,
1886-1962), who studied in China and France and received a doctorate in
law from the University of Paris. He was a member of the Chinese delegation
to the Paris Peace Conference in 1919, and was appointed the Vice Minister
of Foreign Affairs, as well as to diplomatic posts in Spain and Belgium. He
served as the Ambassador to France from 1944 to 1949.

至1949年間,任中華民國駐法國大使。
