          China. The Laughing Buddha seated in royal
          ease on his sack and wearing a long flowing
          robe with finely incised shou characters
          above a leiwen ground, his eyebrows also
          incised, the robe opening at the chest to
          reveal his outsized belly.
           Provenance: From a Scottish private
           collection. Bonham’s London, Asian Art, 9
           Mai 2016, lot 167, bought in at an estimate
           of GBP £5,000-£8,000.
           condition: Good condition with old wear,
           traces of use and tiny nibbling. Scattered
           remainders of back and red cold painting.

          The face of the future Buddha has a joyful
          expression, flanked with elongated earlobes,
          crowned with a bald pate, the features nicely
          picked out with pigment.
