Qing Dynasty
Elegantly carved with barbed sides divided into six bracket foliations,
the tightly grained wood patinated to a deep reddish-brown colour,
with characteristic gold flecks, the interior centred with a broad plug
with corresponding recessed roundel to the underside, fitted stand,
box. 14.3cm (5 5/8in) high (3).

Probably 17th/18th century
Carved from a single large section of well-grained timber, possibly
Huanghuali or Jichimu, largely concealed under an extensive dark
lacquer surface inside and out, with a loose internal plug. 21.5cm (8
1/2 inches) diam.
