A PAIR OF FAMILLE-ROSE ‘FLORAL’ BOWLS
Qianlong seal marks, Republic period
Each with gently rounded sides rising from a straight foot to a subtly
everted rim, painted in mirror images of one another with an outcrop
just above the foot of tender bamboo sprigs and flowering pink and
yellow peonies, blue aster, and yellow chrysanthemum, the long stems
reaching around the sides and gracefully bending beneath the weight
of the blossoms and leaves, two peony branches and a bamboo
shoot extending over the rim and wreathing the interior with further
blooms and verdant leaves, a dragonfly delicately painted in grisaille
approaching one of the branches, the base with a six-character seal
mark in underglaze blue.
