The allegorical image conveyed through the
figure of a virtuous woman ascending to
heaven after death, cherubs and rays of light
accompanying her, the family mourning by her
deathbed below, framed.

The present painting is after an engraving by
Francesco Bartolozzi (1727-1815). A member
of the Royal Academy, Bartolozzi was one of
the highest regarded engravers of his time.
