AN ARCHAISTIC BRONZE VESSEL AND COVER, YOU
YONGZHENG-QIANLONG PERIOD (1723-1795)
The you vessel is finely cast on each side of the body with a large taotie mask formed by a
pair of confronted dragons, their raised, hooked tails positioned above small birds, below
a pairs of dragons confronting an animal-mask. The cover is decorated on each side of
the top with a taotie mask above two backward-looking dragons on the sides. The arched
handle is cast with phoenix pattern on top and leiwen on the side, terminating in two
animal-heads. The base is cast with a fourteen-character inscription.

The inscription can be translated as:
‘May the offspring of the next ten thousand years treasure this. Made by Taiying Hall.’
