A RUSSET AND CELADON JADE 'DRAGONS AND CLOUDS' For a jade bottle of very similar unusual oval section with a possible
BOTTLE Imperial attribution, see Sotheby's New York, 1 April 2005, Fine
1750-1800 Chinese Snuff Bottles from the Collection of Avrina Pugh, lot 380.
Of oval cross-section and well hollowed, carved in extremely low relief
with a continuous scene cleverly utilizing the pale russet inclusions
to depict a bearded horned dragon rising amidst dense clouds to
one side and another rising from frothing water to the other side
beneath further clouds and with the plain sky utilizing the celadon
tones, supported on a tall oval foot ring with deeply cut center, a tall
cylindrical neck with a small mouth opening.
