17. Chinese porcelain famille verte bottle vase with compressed
rounded body, cylindrical ribbed neck and gently flared
高 圖 升 日 五 彩 指 瓶 rim, painted in a continuous scene with two dignitaries
and their attendants walking towards a village and the sun
being pointed out in the distance amongst the mountains
and cloud scrolls, amongst fencing pierced rockwork and
plantain, the neck with ribbon tied precious objects, all on
a flared foot, the base glazed with two rings in underglaze
blue.
9 √ inches, 25.1 cm high.
康 熙 清 Kangxi, circa 1700.

• A blue and white Kangxi vase also with a figure
無 字 款 雙 圈 pointing at the sun amongst similar clouds in the
Gu Gong Museum Collection is illustrated by Chen
Run Min in Qing Dynasty, Shunzhi Period and Kangxi
Period Underglaze Blue, no. 282, pp. 434-435, where
the author notes that the scene depicted symbolises
an imminent promotion for an official.
