A SOAPSTONE ‘LION’ SEAL
17TH/18TH CENTURY
of square section, the ‘Buddhist lion’ crouching on a large craggy rock with
its head raised high, detailed with finely incised fur and a prominently
pronounced ridged spine, the seal face carved with a four-character
inscription reading Zhuo jiu ting huang li (pour a cup of wine and listen to
the Oriole sing)
