A CARNELIAN-AGATE ‘MANDARIN DUCK’

QING DYNASTY, 19TH CENTURY
cleverly carved using the different tones of the stone to depict a recumbent
bird with legs tucked beneath the plump body and wings neatly folded over
the back, the crested head turned sharply over the back and clasping a large
leafy lotus spray in the beak, with a duckling by its side, the stone of varying
pink tones with white and grey inclusions
