A RARE ROOT-WOOD AND STONE LOTUS-FORM
SCULPTURE

QING DYNASTY (1644-1911)

The sculpture is naturalistically rendered as a large half-closed lotus
leaf supported on a gnarled stem with two pebbles enveloped by
further ‘budding leaves’, all supported on the single root stem.
17æ in. (45 cm.) high, Japanese wood box

The current lot is accompanied by an inscribed Japanese wood box dated
to August, 28th year of the Meiji reign (1895).
