A QILIAN ‘STREAM AND GROTTOES’ STONE
QING DYNASTY (1644-1911)
The dark beige stone is suggestive of a horizontal mountainscape
with grottoes. The characteristic concentric wrinkles of the stone
have been creatively utilised to represent a rushing stream cascading
through the rocks, while the uneven surface is rendered a beaded
texture by the integrally formed nodules.
