A CARVED CELADON-GLAZED MOONFLASK
Qianlong seal mark
The flattened globular body finely carved in low relief to each face with
a writhing five-clawed dragon chasing a flaming pearl amongst clouds
and above foaming waves, the small garlic-head mouth flanked with
two scrolled handles.

A RARE ROBIN’S EGG-GLAZED STONEWARE BALUSTER VASE
19th century
The small, elegantly potted vessel rising from a gently flaring foot to
sloping shoulders and a small everted mouth, all covered, including the
base with a fine variegated blue and turquoise glaze, wooden box.

Provenance
Acquired before 17 June 1957 and thence by descent.
The present lot comes with a typed and signed letter dated 17 June
1957 where the vase is appraised by the Percival David Foundation of
Chinese Art with both Professor Hansford and Lady David stating that it
“comes within the general classification of stoneware, and was possibly
made in Kiang-si Province, where, even in the 19th century, the standard
of work was still most remarkably high.”
