A SOAPSTONE FIGURE OF A LUOHAN Luohan were major disciples of the historical Buddha, Shakyamuni,
18th century who attained Enlightenment through wisdom and asceticism, thus
Finely carved seated cross-legged in a meditative posture with his escaping the endless cycle of rebirths. Although they had achieved
right hand in bhumisparsha mudra, his left hand resting on his feet, Buddhahood, these figures remained on earth to protect and defend
his contemplative face modelled with long pendulous ears and curled the faith until the advent of Maitreya, the Buddha of the Future. Having
moustache, wearing long flowing robes open at the chest, incised at perfected wisdom and knowledge of all things, the luohan were freed
the hems with a key-fret border, the stone of attractive translucent from sensual desires and could bestow perfection on others; see
