Jiaqing seal mark and of the period
The vessel with deep walls rising to a gently-flaring
gilt rim, the exterior with a continuous garden scene
depicting a gentleman and two ladies joyfully playing
weiqi on the terrace of an elegant pavilion flanked
by floral shrubs and pitted rocks, the interior under
a turquoise glaze, the base painted with an iron-red
seal mark.

ROSE ‘ORCHID’ BOWL
62 Daoguang seal mark and of the period
Finely potted with deep rounded sides rising to an
everted rim from a short, tapered foot, the exterior
delicately enamelled with three clusters of orchids
reserved on a café-au-lait ground below the gilt rim,
one side with a calligraphic inscription.

‘DRAGON AND PHOENIX’ SAUCER-DISH
Guangxu six-character mark and of the period
Boldly enamelled to the centre with a pair of
confronted striding dragons pursuing a flaming pearl
amongst cloud scrolls and thunderbolts, encircled
by the Eight Buddhist Emblems, each ribbon-tied on
a ground of blossoming flowers, all below a border
of key-fret, the reverse with four exotic long-tailed
phoenix flying amidst vaporous clouds, all delicately
picked out in multi-coloured enamels, the base with
the six-character mark in iron red.
