AN EXTREMELY RARE GILT BRONZE FIGURE OF A BUDDHA
ON A STAND
Silla dynasty (57 BCE-935 CE), 10th century
Cast with the hands in the ‘gift granting’ gesture (varadamudra), the
long monastic robes knotted with a ribboned tie across the torso and
cascading in rhythmic folds down the shoulders and over the legs, all
supported on a separately cast lotus pedestal stand, the figure open
to the reverse
With a Japanese fitted wood storage box
