of rectangular form, intricately worked in varying levels of relief
with a mountainous riverscape depicting farmers and a buffalo 題識：
engaged in agriculture and a lady across the bridge carrying
two pails of water followed by a boy, the top with an imperial 御製詩。時雨時晴首夏天，插秧一月早常年。水村佳
poem, the reverse with a similar landscape, hongmu stand 景勝圖畫，著我幾閒好試船。

The present screen is a superb example of jade workmanship
characteristic of the type created in the Jade Workshops of the
Zaobanchu (Imperial Palace Workshop) during the Qianlong
period. The skill of the carver is evident in the varying levels
of impeccably detailed figures engaged in agriculture and
sericulture.
The imperial poem, titled Three Poems on a Picture of a
Waterside Village, is included in Qing gaozong yuzhi shiwen
quanji [Anthology of imperial Qianlong poems and text],
yuzhi shi san ji [Imperial poetry, vol. 3], vol. 13, p. 9. It can be
translated as:
‘Sometimes rainy, sometimes sunny, it is early summer. It is
time to transplant the grains, one month earlier than usual.
Such a picturesque scenery of the village by the river. Hire
several nice boats for me (so I can stay here for longer)’.
