introduction

this special issue of Vormen uit Vuur is dedicated to eva Ströber, in appreciation of the many years she worked at the
          Princessehof National museum of Ceramics.

As curator of Asian ceramics eva Ströber clearly put her stamp on the museum. From the moment she started in 2008,
her activities – which included lectures, guided tours, advancing the quality of scientiic research, and publications such
as Ming: Porcelain for a Globalised Trade – served to enhance the museum’s reputation worldwide. Furthermore, her
energy and drive were of the utmost importance for the management of the collection and the organisation of superb
exhibitions. She also wrote several important articles about Chinese porcelain for Vormen uit Vuur.

She made a lot of friends both inside and outside the museum: witness this special issue of Vormen uit Vuur in her honour,
which the editors were only too pleased to help realise.

Clearly, eva Ströber has not gone into the proverbial ‘rest mode’ so often associated with people reaching retirement age,
as demonstrated by her recent article ‘Ceramic Water Droppers in the Collection of the Princessehof’ in the march 2016
          issue of Aziatische Kunst.

No doubt she will be following from a distance both the many new developments in the museum where she worked for
such a long time and the forthcoming important events in the city of Leeuwarden. A lot will be said in the media about
the reinstallation of the collection and the museum’s 100-year jubilee in 2017 as well as about Leeuwarden as european
Capital of Culture 2018. the museum’s enthusiastic and energetic director Kris Callens and his team are sure to make all
the activities related to these events a success.

We would like to thank eva for her many years of dedication and hard work. Her outstanding research into Asian ceramics
in general and the Princessehof’s collection in particular has once more unequivocally underlined the museum’s
          raison d’ être.

We wish eva many more happy and productive years.
