The print is part of an untitled series of courtesans compared
to flowers. There are two examples in the Museum of Fine Arts
Boston (accession numbers 11.14315 and 21.6462) also with
no publishers mark. An example in the Honolulu Museum of
Art (object number 24515) has the publisher’s mark of Maruya
Jinpachi.

Tsukimaro was a pupil of Kitagawa Utamaro (1753?-1806) and
worked in a very similar style to that of his teacher. For the
