‘MYTHICAL BEAST’ CARVING
17TH-18TH CENTURY

The group is carved as a recumbent
single-horned mythical beast, its young
curled upon its back. The stone is of a
very pale, slightly mottled tone with some
streaked russet inclusions.

A WHITE AND RUSSET JADE
‘MELON’ GROUP
18TH CENTURY

The stone is naturalistically carved and
pierced in the form of three melons
growing from a leafy vine, with a small
butterfy resting to one side. The jade
is of a pale milky tone with some minor
mottled grey and streaked russet
inclusions.
