The auspicious beast carved standing four-
square with its large head turned back to
watch the attendant boy clambering on its
hind quarters, caparisoned with a lotus-
decorated saddle, the stone with a very pale

AND CUB’ BELT PLAQUE
18th century
The flattened carving with a ferocious looking
lion playing with a brocade ball and grasping
ribbon in its jaws, with a smaller cub
frolicking across its hind quarters, the reverse
with two bosses, the stone of a very even
pale celadon hue.

BEAST’ FINIAL

Carved in openwork with two single-horned
mythical beasts each with bifurcated tail,
seated on their hind quarters on a slightly
concave base drilled with two pair of holes
for fastening, the stone of an even pale green
tone.
