A COPPER RED-GLAZED SLENDER
BALUSTER VASE, GUANYIN ZUN
18th century
The elegantly potted vessel rising from a
rolled foot rim to a slim shoulder before
tapering to a tall gently flaring mouth rim, all
covered in a well controlled glaze graduating
from a deep crimson to a variegated ox-
blood hue and thinning at the mouth rim to
a pale hue, gold-lacquer repair, kintsugi, to
neck.

The quatre-foil section vase modelled after
a bronze hu vase, with tubular handles and
raised peach-shape panels to each face, all
covered in a vibrant crimson transmutation
glaze with violet undertones, thinning to a
pale hue at the corners and mouth rim, the
base ground down. 25.5cm (10in) high
