A CARVED RUSSET AND WHITE JADE PEBBLE-FORM SNUFF BOTTLE
1760-1850
One side is carved through the russet skin with a web of lingzhi fungus and a single bat,
the reverse with a crab clutching a stalk of millet.

The imagery depicted on this bottle of a bat and lingzhi convey a wish for blessings.
It would have been an appropriate gift for a number of occasions including a birthday
or marriage.
Compare to a similar pebble-form jade bottle from the Ruth and Carl Barron Collection
of Snuf Bottles: Part III, sold at Christie’s New York, 14 September 2016, lot 405,
also carved with crab and millet.
