A ‘ZITAN’ CABRIOLE-LEG STAND
QING DYNASTY, 18TH / 19TH CENTURY
the rectangular top comprised of a oating panel top set within a mitered
frame, carved with a leiwen border over a recessed waist with delicate
foliate decoration in relief in both zitan and boxwood, the shaped apron
enclosing intricate oral openwork, joining the slender serpentine legs
with acanthus leaf motifs tapering to elegantly foliate scrolling feet, all
raised on a conforming platform supported on four low bracket feet

each with a gently curved crestrail over four serpentine spindles and
continuing to the back posts, the arms of elegant S-form joined to the
front posts and supported by slender shaped braces, the hardwood seat
set within a molded-edge frame, all on four beaded legs joined by plain
spandreled aprons and stepped stretchers (2)
