the bombé body rising from a short tapered foot to a
ared rim, anked by a pair of yoke handles, set with a
small lug for attachment to a bird cage, covered overall
with a crackled pale greenish-blue glaze, stopping neatly
at the foot to reveal the gray stoneware body

the gently rounded sides rising from a short tapered
foot, carved around the exterior with elegant lotus
petals, covered overall with a crackled pale grayish-blue
glaze, stopping neatly at the foot to reveal the dark gray
stoneware body
Diameter 6½ in., 16.5 cm
The present bowl belongs to a small group of Longquan
wares that were produced during the Song dynasty to
imitate guan ware. For other examples from this group,
see two bowls sold in our London rooms, 15th June 1982,
lot 66; and 12th December 1978, lot 191; and two dishes,
one sold at Christie’s Hong Kong, 3rd November 1998, lot
909; and the other at Christie’s London, 18th December
1983, lot 315.
