A barge where I’m located parked right next to me. I’m not so sure I know the why or the wherefores because according
to my map with barge parking marked, he was too far upriver and should have been farther down river from the lock
entrance.
After seeing the effect it had though I decided I would think he did it to be helpful because it blocked any water
coming ashore or waves coming in from Mississippi River. Like the wing of a mother hen or duck covering it’s young.
My kayak was on shore enough there was almost no way to be “run over” so I just treated the barge as a blessing in
disguise because as cold as it was I needed all the blessings I could get.
Being that first night and nothing yet had been loaded correctly on the Kayak but just set on the kayak to get cross river,
anything I left after landing I made sure was covered by tarps. The wind had been significant so I made sure it was
secure before I ever started working on the tent.
I had tied it off and was OK with the weight and what I had secured, but that was to be ONLY for one night and I knew
everything was waiting till morning to be adjusted and arranged correctly.
After sleeping at night …………….no actually I didn’t sleep that night that was today…………….. I’m getting ready
to sleep tonight ………..oh well ……….that’s interesting ………..no ………...that was yesterday ……...OK ……….so
I did sleep at night here and woke up cold because even though my 40° bag was warmer than walking around the street
of Baton Rouge it was cold. The winds were bitter. It seem to blow through just about everywhere you can imagine and
left me numb dumb and befuddled spending too much time getting warm that getting organized.
