KEY MESSAGES
X Meta analysis of 41 clinical trial (5261 patients) evaluating IOP lowering for the 6 commonly
used fixed combination with 0.5% Timolol.
X DTFC produces a similar efficacy on IOP (more than 30%) compared to Brimonidine and
Brinzolamide fixed combinations with Timolol.
STRENGTHS
X Meta-analysis of randomized clinical trials involving 5261 patients
X Inclusion criteria for the review were clearly defined and three relevant databases were
searched. Publication bias was assessed and was not detected.
X Attempts were made to reduce reviewer error and bias throughout the review.
X Quality assessment was undertaken using a standard checklist that indicated that most
of the evidence was good quality.
WEAKNESSES
X Latanoprost/timolol, bimatoprost/timolol and travoprost/timolol might achieve better
effects.
X Small sample sizes for some drug combinations, uncertain heterogeneity and uncer-
tainty regarding the appropriateness of the synthesis should be considered.
X The authors noted that evidence for bimatoprost/timolol and brinzolamide/timolol was
based on only two papers and further research is needed.
MARKETING CLAIM
X Among fixed combinations with timolol, Dorzolamide-Timolol has a similar efficacy on
