Occasionally, we don’t need to change the present tense into the past if the information in
direct speech is still true or general fact.
• Direct speech : She says, “The earth is round.”
• Indirect speech: She said that the earth is round.
NOTE
1. Perubahan susunan kalimat hanya terjadi bila kalimat langsung yang diubah menjadi
kalimat tidak langsung merupakan kalimat tanya. Jika pertanyaan itu hanya membutuhkan
jawaban yes/no , maka dipakai kata hubung if/whether.Sedangkan kalimat tanyanya
menggunakan question words, maka question words tersebut menjadi kata hubung dalam
kalimat tidak langsungnya.
Ex. a. He said, “Where will they go?”
He asked where they would go.
