Telephoto Lenses

               Telephotos have a dedicated
               telephoto lens element and may
zoom. By design, they are meant to
focus at greater distances. They can
be heavy. The telephoto range starts
around 200 mm and up to 600mm or
more. These are ideal for shooting
               distant subjects like wildlife, planets,
               stars, and sports. Common
telephotos are 70-300 mm and 100-
400 mm zoom lenses, and 400 mm
               or longer Prime telephotos.

                                                                     Zoom Telephoto at 500 mm

               Macro Lenses

Macro lenses allow getting an incredibly detailed close-up shot like coins, insects, and
flowers or even smaller depending on the lens. These almost always require a tripod for
sharpness. The depth of field, sharpness from front to back, can also be very narrow.
Macro lenses tend to be expensive and are in prime focal length ranges of about 40-100
               mm.
Common lenses are the 40 mm, 60 mm, and 100 mm Macros. At 40 mm you can get
very close to your subject and is good for miniature or coin photography, while at 100
mm a Macro lenses gives you distance so as not to disturb insects.
