Lesson 13: Buildings and Street Photography

Typically, street photography is about candidly capturing life in public areas. And
contrary to its name, street photography does not have to be done on the streets. You
can do street photography anywhere. A good street photo needs a clearly defined
subject. Try and tell a story with your images.

               Elements of Composition

The element of composition applies to all types of photography, including landscapes in
the previous lesson. This is even truer in Street Photography. These are not hard and
fast rules, but considerations to take in when framing your shot.

               The Rule of Thirds

As this implies, we try to divide our scene into thirds as it is more appealing to the eye.
This could be a simple composition of a single tree in a pasture to the side of your
frame one third in. The rule of thirds is flexible. Think of one corner as a third, or the top
               or bottom of the frame.

               Leading Lines
Leading lines can give the image depth or draw the eye to your subject, or they may be
repetitive. Good use of these can make a good photograph a great photograph.
