Definition of exposition text
According to Mahsun (2014) in Yanti, et al (2018) expository text is
text that contains ideas or suggestions about something personal. Expository
writing attempts to tell, explain, explain or explain something. Keraf's (2011)
explanation of expository text, quoted by Nasucha and Mudjiman (2016),
states that expository text aims to convey description or information.
Expository text expresses written ideas or opinions or something that needs to
be conveyed to the reader. In this text, the relationship between the first
paragraph, the second paragraph and the following paragraphs must be
mutually integrated in form and meaning to convey the content contained in a
text. In conclusion, exposition text is text that aims to explain or explain ideas,
suggestions or information in a structured and integrated manner so that it can
be understood by the reader.
Types of Exposition Texts
1. Exposition Definition Text
An exposition definition is a single paragraph of exposition that
has content about the understanding of something. Example, temulawak
is a herbal plant that originated from Indonesia. The habitat of this plant
is in tropical forests. This plant can thrive in low-lying areas well. This
plant has a content of minyak atsiri, curcumin, and others. This plant has
various benefits in terms of preventing anemia, improving kidney
function, preventing cancer and so on.
2. Process Exposition Text
Process exposition is an exposition paragraph that has the
intention of a manufacturing process, a usage process or a way to do
something. Example, it turns out that lime is useful in treating coughs.
This fruit contains essential oils and substances that can be useful for
controlling respiratory muscles so that they can relieve coughs. The way
to use it is by drinking lime juice which can be mixed with honey, soy
sauce or sugar so that the sour taste is reduced.
3. Classification Exposition Text
Classification exposition is an exposition paragraph that contains
content about grouping things. Example, referring to its nature, waste
can be grouped into two types. Inorganic waste is waste that does not rot
easily, such as paper, plastic food packaging and bottles. Then organic
waste is waste that rots easily, such as vegetables, food waste, leaves
and so on.
