Characteristic dan language features of exposition text
1. Characteristics of Exposition Text
An exposition text is type of writing that aims to explain or
inform the reader about a particular topic. It is characterized by its clear,
concise, and objective presentation of facts and information. To be clear,
here are the characteristics of exposition text:
• Exposition texts are based on facts and information that can be
verified. Exposition text does not contains writer's opinion or
beliefs. Moreover, it often avoid the use of subjective language.
• Exposition texts are written in a way that is easy to understand.
It is usually clear and consice. It also use formal and
grammatically correct language.
• The entire text contains answers to 5W+1H, namely what,
where, when, who, why, and how.
• Exposition texts are neutral. It does not favor anyone for certain
interests.
2. Language Features of Exposition Texts
Another differences that distinguish exposition texts with other
texts is its unique language features. Exposition texts have the following
language features:
• Use simple present tense. Because exposition text is factual or
non-fiction, the tense used is simple present, which states
current conditions.
• Use conjunction. In an exposition text, there is a structure of the
author's argument that is connected to the discussion of the
topic. So, exposition text uses a lot of conjunctions, for
example, so, therefore, the reason, etc.
• Use connective words. In exposition text, connective words are
used to connect words with words, sentences with sentences, or
act as links between phrases. Examples of connecting words
include even though, although, however, nevertheless, on the
contrary, on the other hand, and many more.
• Use vocabularies to express the writer's expression. In simple
terms, the vocabulary that can be used in this text is think, must,
try, need, important, and so on.
