High gas prices will force factory shutdowns next month in 10 key industries, including chemicals, ceramics, glass, sugar, baking, and dairy,Dmytro Oliynyk, chairman of the Federation of Employers of Ukraine, predicts in an interview with Interfax-Ukraine. The Federation polled companies where gas traditionally accounts for 7% or more of production costs. “In September, about 40% of the studied industries were unprofitable due to high gas prices, and in October, losses are expected to show 60%. At current prices, 100% of the studied industries will be unprofitable,” he said. “We see that in November-December companies declare that they will stop production or reduce capacity. About 60% of the surveyed companies have announced such plans.”
By the end of President Zelenskiy’s first term, Ukraine should have a network of 25 industrial parks supported by a range of fiscal incentives, Oleksii Chernyshov, Minister for Communities and Territories Development, writes in an Atlantic Council blog. “This industrial park initiative is a key element of the country’s 2021-27 State Strategy for Regional Development,” he writes.     Speaking about the agricultural sector, the Prime Minister of Poland concluded that “if not for Ukrainian workers, the sector would go bankrupt”. A few days after the announcement of the first lockdown, Polish farmers demanded that their employees from Ukraine be allowed to stay as soon as possible. In a meeting of the Polish Minister of Agriculture, Jan Krzysztof Ardanowski, and the Ukrainian Ambassador to Poland Andriy Deshchytsia, they discussed the urgent need of Polish farmers to employ seasonal workers from Ukraine. "It is important for us that the citizens of Ukraine are willing to come to work in the Polish agricultural sector because the demand for skilled agricultural workers in this market is very high," said the Polish minister.
Ukrainians applying for a record number of obtained resident permits in the EU. For the fifth year in a row, Ukrainians have received the largest number of resident permits in the European Union, reported Eurostat data.
