Ukraine's maritime industry includes 14 ports on the Black Sea and the Sea of Azov, which together handle some 130mn tonnes of cargo annually. The modernization plan consists of 46 projects in various ports up to the year 2030, with a total cost of over $1bn. aid the projects envisage the development of new transshipment capacities, including the construction of new berths and cargo handling terminals. 5,000 additional jobs will be created and would allow boosting the throughput capacity of the ports to 157mn tons of cargo.

Totaling $1.7bn, the projects – largely building new berths and cargo handling terminals – are designed to increase by 21% the total cargo handling capacity of Ukraine’s 14 sea ports to 157mn tons of cargo. With almost half of Ukraine’s foreign trade going through seaports, the increased economic activity would create 5,000 new jobs, Kistion estimated. Using Dutch port technology, Tehagro plans to invest nearly $200mn in building three terminals  – for containers, grain and bulk cargo – at Yuzhny port, Vyacheslav Boyalskiy, director of the company said last week at the ports forum in Odesa. Starting next year, Tehagro will spend $6.2mn on extending rail, electricity, and water into a 82-hectare site it owns at Yuzhny. At build out, in 2022, the terminals should handle 2mn tons of container cargo, 2.5mn tons of bulk cargo and 4.5mn tons of grain. The berths will be able to handle ships with carrying capacities of 150-170 thousand tons, about double the tonnages of Panamax ships.Text
US GE prepares to supply 30 locomotives in joint project with Ukrainian Railways . At the end of 2018 General Electric Transportation, with 10% participation of Kriukov Car Building Works (KCBW,) will start delivering 30 TE33A locomotives of the Evolution series to Ukrzaliznytsia in line with an agreed program of localization of locomotive production, acting Ukrzaliznytsia Board Chairman Yevhen Kravtsov has announced on Facebook. “This is a large victory and a landmark for Ukrainian railways and the entire sector,” he added. The contract provides for 10% of localization initially, after which the locomotives will be made of at least 40% of Ukrainian produced parts. “The final stage of locomotive production for Ukrzaliznytsia has started in Pennsylvania,” he elabourated
Lviv air passenger traffic has jumped by 51% this year, compared to the same January-May period last year , the airport’s press service reports. Traffic totalled 478,000 passengers, or 3,200 a day. Growth took place on the back of 1,200 extra flights. LOT Polish now flies to four cities in Poland. Wizz Air flies to Britain, Germany, and Poland. By June 22, Ernest will be flying from Lviv to five Italian cities: Rome, Naples, Venice and Milan’s two airports. In the fall, Ryanair starts flights to London, Warsaw, Krakow, and two German cities – Memmingen and Weeze.
