cooperation Siemens Gamesa has concluded with Power Engineering Consulting Joint Stock Company 2 of Vietnam and Paci c Corporation respectively. Following expected commissioning in mid-2021, they will generate enough electricity to power the demands of more than 350,000 Vietnamese and help alleviate power shortage in the country.
 e company has also signed a 10-
year contract to provide operation and maintenance services for Tan uan wind farm and a 20-year term sheet for servicing ai Hoa wind farm, ensuring turbine performance and maximizing business case for the customers.
“We’re pleased to see the Siemens Gamesa 4.X platform gaining a great deal of traction
in Vietnam from the debut for our rst nearshore project to the recent largest order and the combined 165MW for two deals we are announcing today,” said Enrique Pedrosa, Chief Regions O cer of Siemens Gamesa’s Onshore business unit. “We have been able
to win trust from existing and many new customers thanks to our product innovation and a growing local team on the ground
with strong project execution and servicing capabilities. We are committed to introducing our latest products and technology to Vietnam and partnering with customers to unlock the potential of renewables in Vietnam and Asia Paci c,” he added.
Vietnam o ers great potential for wind power development. According to the World Bank Group, the country has onshore potential capacity of 24GW, and 475GW of o shore capacity along its coastline of over 3,000 km. While the country had installed
487.4MW of wind capacity by the end of 2019, capacity is forecast to grow by more than 11GW by 2025 as the country looks to quickly escalate its renewable energy supplies. SIEMENS GAMESA

Ming Yang launches 11MW
hybrid drive offshore wind
turbine
Ming Yang has launched its new 11MW hybrid drive o shore wind turbine. It has a rotor diameter that is 203 metres, enabling a 31% higher annual energy production than its predecessor.
e wind turbine’s 99 metre long carbon- glass hybrid blades provide a swept area of 32,365 square metres, equivalent to the same surface area as ve standard football elds.
Ming Yang will install a prototype in 2021 and will make the wind turbine commercially available in 2022.
e wind turbine’s shorter, more compact structure can reduce loads applied to the drivetrain, while the medium speed gearbox is similar in structure to aeroengine gearboxes.
e design also provides protection within the nacelle against corrosion caused by salt in the ocean air.
At the end of the rst quarter of 2020, MingYang’s orders had reached 15.23GW, of which hybrid drive wind turbines accounted for about 92%.

Floating solar plants make waves across Asia-Pacific
Floating solar power plants are expected to generate around 900% more electricity across the Asia-Paci c region.
at’s according to a new report from the Institute for Energy Economics and Financial Analysis (IEEFA), which suggests countries in Asia leads European nations in deploying oating solar farms.
It adds oating solar installations have shown they can withstand typhoons, powerful waves and winds gusting up to 170 kilometres an hour, with such projects now being tested by manufacturers.
While the rst oating solar plant was installed in Japan in 2007, China is currently the largest player on the market.
e two countries had a combined installed capacity of 1.3GW at the end of 2018 while Vietnam has installed around 47MW of capacity.
e IEEFA adds India’s largest power generation rm, National ermal Power Corporation (NTPC), con rmed it has 200MW of oating solar projects under development across four sites, making it one of the world’s largest developers.
Some of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) that have signed contracts for future projects include Vietnam (330MW), Malaysia (150MW), Indonesia (145MW), Philippines (100MW), ailand (80MW) and Singapore (54MW).
