     In June, precipitation in Turkey was down 6% y/y although it was recorded at 21% above the seasonal average.
Nevertheless, agricultural drought severity indicators calculated by Turkey’s general directorate of meteorology suggested that conditions have worsened compared to May.
In the last week of June, Turkey’s grain board TMO received bids to import 395,000 tonnes of red milling wheat and 320,000 tonnes of animal feed barley. The average bid for wheat came in at $261.5 per tonne, while the average bid for barley was calculated at $270.69.
On July 13, the TMO received bids in another tender to import 395,000 tonnes of red milling wheat. The average bid came in at $258.1 per tonne, lower than the $261 on June 30.
On July 12, the TMO received bids to cover imports of 440,000 tonnes of animal feed barley while the average price fell sharply to $237.2 from $270.7 in the previous tender, held on June 24.
One trader told Reuters that the prices were “aggressively low.”
The TMO will collect bids by August 3 for importing 515,000 tonnes of feed
barley and by August 4 for importing 395,000 tonnes of red milling wheat.
On May 24, the TMO released its grain buying prices for 2021. Accordingly, the
