Kharkiv’s IT success shows the way for other Ukrainian cities. Ukraine’s second-largest city, Kharkiv, is well on its way to becoming a major regional IT powerhouse, according to a new report from the Kharkiv IT Cluster. Carried out in partnership with KPMG, the report concludes that the Kharkiv region is now home to more than 45,000 IT specialists, and 500 IT firms. Despite the Covid-19 pandemic, growth over the past two years has been strong. The estimated value of the Kharkiv IT industry is approximately $1.5 bln in 2021, an increase of 59% in 2019.
New Technology Park in Kyiv planned. The National University Kyiv-Mohyla Academy (NaUKMA) together with the Bureau of Investment Programs (BIP) NGO are planning to create a technology park in an educational building located at 2/4, Glazunov Street for UAH 50 million with the participation of an investor.     Ukraine banned the import of electricity from Russia and Belarus for another month, until Nov 1, 2021. The National Energy and Utilities Regulatory Commission (NEURC) has extended the ban on the import of electricity from the countries that are not members of the Energy Community, that is, from the Russian Federation and Belarus, for another month - until November 1 of this year. The regulator made the corresponding decision on September 29. As reported, the NEURC established a ban on the import of electricity from the Russian Federation and Belarus by decree No. 853 dated May 26, its validity period expires on October 1. The powers of the regulator to limit the available bandwidth distributed at daily and monthly auctions in 2021 is enshrined in law of Ukraine No. 1396-IX regarding the certification of Ukrenergo.
Nuclear power plants increase electricity generation by 4%. The Ministry of Energy in the updated forecast balance of electricity increased the share of nuclear power by 4% in 2021, said the First Deputy Minister Yuri Vlasenko. The volume of nuclear power production increased from 81.316 billion kWh to 84.52 billion kWh.
In August 2021, Ukraine’s total volume of electricity exports decreased by 6.1%, to 344.1 million kWh, whereas imports rose 21.9 times, to 27.1 million kWh (Ukrenergo). Compared to July 2021, electricity exports from the Burshtyn TPP Energy Island decreased by 21.2% to 193.8 million kWh in August 2021. The decrease was recorded in all directions: Hungary - by 13.4%, Slovakia - by 66%, and Romania - by 22%.
Zhytomyr will be able to provide 30% of its city heating through recycling. A waste processing plant is planned to open in Zhytomyr in March 2022 which will provide 30% of the energy required to heat the city. Zhytomyr Mayor, Serhiy Sukhomlyn, said that the current area of landfills in Ukraine is 8.5 thousand hectares. The plant is being built in Zhytomyr that will be able to process 85,000 tons of solid household waste.
