Ukraine will hold 4 concession tenders for the management of seaports in 2022. The Ministry of Infrastructure announcement was reported in ukrinform referred to the concession projects being implemented in Berdyansk, Izmail, Odesa, and in three terminals of the Black Seaport. According to the Minister of Infrastructure, Yuriy Vaskov, the Ministry may hold two more tenders for concessions in the port of Chernomorsk. Vaskov noted that in December, the berths No7, No8, and No9 of the port of Chernomorsk would be leased for 49 years.
Cargo Transportation on the Dnipro River is up by 31%. The cargo volume which was transported on the Dnipro River in January-November 2021 amounted to more than 13.2mn tonnes, which is 31% more than in the same period in 2020. The majority of freight was construction materials - 8.8mn tonnes (an increase of 72%), grain more than 3.1mn tonnes (same as last year), and metal products – more than 1.1mn tonnes (a decrease of 30%). In addition to this, in the 11 months of this year, 24,500 tonnes of dangerous goods were transported along the Dnipro.
The Dnipro River shipping season ended last week with freight traffic up 31% over last year, reports Port of Ukraine. An increase in barges moving sand, rock and gravel for the government’s ‘Big Construction’ road building program was responsible for the growth. Construction cargo jumped by 72% yoy, to account for two thirds of the 13.2 million tonnes moved on the river this year. Vessel trips increased by 41%, to 14,747, according to statistics maintained by the river information service of Ukraine’s Sea Ports Authority.
Ukraine has blocked Russian ships from accessing its inland waters. On January 1, a Ukrainian law came into force banning Russian vessels from accessing Ukraine's inland waters. According to the Ukrainian Parliament, access to the inland waters of Ukraine is prohibited to ships flying the flag of the aggressor state, which carry passengers and cargo between river ports. In addition, coasting travel of Russian-flagged vessels is also prohibited. According to the document, the country's inland waters include rivers like the Dniester, Danube, and Dnieper.

Next year, a record $5.25 billion will be spent to build roads and to modernize railroads, airport and river locks, reports Oleksandr Kava, deputy Finance Minister. While the lion’s share will go for roads, $130 million will go for modernizing regional airports. Construction starts next year in Western Ukraine on Ukraine’s first privately built ‘autobahn’ – or 4-lane divided highway, Prime Minister Shmyhal said yesterday at a Ukrainian-Croatian business forum in Kyiv. Picking up a highway from Krakow, Poland to Ukraine’s border, the first segment will run through Lviv Oblast, from Krakovets to Lviv. Extending to Brody and on to Rivne, the new highway is to be 280 km long. Designed for traffic to flow at 130 kph (80 mph), the road is to cut the drive time from Rivne to the Polish border, to 2.5 hours, from 4 hours 20 minutes today.
