2.8 Putin & government’s popularity
Russian President Vladimir Putin’s personal popularity ticked up to 67% in October from 64% the month before – its highest level in a year, according to independent pollster the Levada Center.
This was despite the blatant fix during the September general election that saw the ruling United Russia swept back into power and the widespread and demonstrable vote rigging.
Moreover, the perception of if the country was going in the right direction also ticked up a few points to 48%, with another 43% saying it was going in the wrong direction.
All-in-all the poll results show that the mood is very stable at the moment. The governors continue to poll at 59%, close to Putin’s own level and the population remains split on the performance of the government as well as generally disapproving of the Duma.
